An in-depth introduction to furniture making using power tools and hand tools, as you make an item for your home.
How would you like to show-off a furniture item in your home and tell a guest “I built that” and relish the surprised look on their face? Not only that, be able to actually walk through the design, robustness and minor details – all from hands-on experience of actually building the item yourself!
During this course, you will be making an item while learning various wood working techniques and practices.You will use essential measuring instruments, hand tools and machinery.

What will I learn?
Theory of wood:
Basic theory of wood, types and species available, identification of wood, different types of processed wood such as plywood, block board etc, and what to look for when buying these
Techniques you will learn:
Measuring, how to layout cuts for optimum material usage, dimensioning - hand and machine sawing, planing of solid wood, different types of joinery, sanding, applying different types of finish such as staining, PU or oil
Power tools you will use:
Table saw, mitre saw, jig saw, planer, bench router, hand-held router, cordless drill and drivers, pneumatic nail gun, random orbit sander, finish sander, and many shop-made machines and jigs as necessary for the project
Hand tools you will use:
Saw, hand plane, rasps, screw drivers, sanding blocks, chisels, mallet, various measuring instruments

The cost of the program is dependent on the item chosen to be built. Each item is expected to take 2-4 sessions. See item description in the catalogue for more details for each item.

Unlike store-bought furniture, you will be making informed choices of what material to use to make each item and are 100% sure of the quality of materials used.
You can make minor customisations in design to incorporate your own ideas to make it unique to your home.
You can choose to either paint or polish your item based on the purpose of use - this will be decided specifically to each item.
