My name is Anil and I am a wood worker based out of Bangalore, India. I make custom furniture to specific needs, vision and dimensions, using superior quality solid wood and Baltic birch plywood.
While wood working is my current career, it did not start that way. From as far back as I can remember, I have worked with my hands – sketching, painting, pastels, clay modelling and wood carving. I used to paint a lot in my childhood – I think there are a few paintings that I made when I was in grade-2 tucked away somewhere in a treasure chest. With a totally unrelated degree from the prestigious BITS Pilani under my cap, I spent two decades in the Information Technology space, travelled widely and held several senior leadership roles in the corporate sector, until I found it meaningful no more. I realized that I was working on someone else’s priority only to get an assured salary and hopefully a yearly raise. My days were filled with meaningless meetings that really served no purpose. I felt hollow with a deep void of lack of creativity in what I was doing.
When my association with my last IT company ended, I was at a Y intersection in my life – continue in the same path or pursue my passion in woodworking. I felt I was at the tipping point in age and physical ability. I told myself, “It’s now or never”. One TED talk, Living your Legend by Scott Dinsmore and two books - The element by Sir Richard Robinson and Mastery by Robert Greene, influenced my decision to switch careers
I call my current journey Life 2.0 – a new life and a new career in something I love doing. I tell everyone “I go home physically exhausted, but mentally alert”. I simple LOVE woodworking and making furniture. I work hard to ensure that that passion is reflected in the items I make for my clients. I still have a long way to go, but I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it.
